The
Finest Private Scottish Highland History, Heritage & Scenery Tours.
We will collect you from your hotel, the station or airport and we depart Inverness along the northern Loch Ness road, seeing Urquhart Castle and Fort Augustus Abbey en route. The giant valley which splits Scotland in two is called the Great Glen and we are travelling most of its length today.
As well as travelling the full length of Loch Ness we pass through the village of Fort Augustus, named after the infamous William Augustus Cumberland who defeated Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden in 1746 and then committed some awful war crimes upon the Highland people.
Next we see Loch Oich, crisscross the Caledonian Canal at various points and then see the stunning Loch Lochy ... also reputed to have a monster. Further on our westward journey you can photograph the famous Commando Memorial set in isolated splendour.
Time for a coffee and an optional woollen mill visit at
Spean
Bridge. For those interested in ice age features we may be able to fit in an
excursion to visit the parallel roads of Glen Roy. Another alternative is to
take a trip up into the mountains on a cable car.
As we approach Fort William we briefly visit the medieval Inverlochy Castle. From Fort William we branch south down the beautiful Glen Nevis catching views of Britain's tallest mountain, Ben Nevis, subject to weather, and some great scenery.
On the return to Inverness we take the back-roads depending on time available. Alternatively we can take you on to your west coast accommodation if this is a one-way tour.
A brilliant day for those wishing to see as much scenery as possible during your Highland visit.
This tour is also a good tour for those who would like to end their day on the west coast of Scotland as this would extend the number of places visited too.
Price: £240 for up to six passengers.
